چکیده

To The Editor: We report a case of congenital acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with t(8;16) that went into spontaneous remission. A full-term female presented with blueberry muffin spots at birth. A skin biopsy revealed a diffuse dermal infiltration by immature hematopoietic cells and was diagnosed as myelosarcoma (Fig. 1A and B). At Day 10, the patient’s bone marrow showed 32.8% leukemic blasts (Fig. 1C and D). A subset of the leukemic blasts was weakly positive for myeloperoxidase (MPO) and others showed weak reactivity for nonspecific esterase (NSE) (Fig. 1E and F), consistent with AML, M4 subtype by FAB criteria.

Congenital Acute Myeloid Leukemia with t(8;16) and t(17;19) Double Translocation: Case Presentation and Literature Review

Congenital leukemia is uncommon and excluding transient myeloproliferation associated with Down syndrome, makes up approximately 1% of childhood leukemias. A newborn boy was born with multiple subcutaneous nodules and large purpuric papules. Skin biopsy revealed proliferation of atypical hematologic cells in the dermis. Bone marrow morphology was consistent with acute myeloid leukemia (M5) and ...

Pediatric acute myeloid leukemia with t(8;16)(p11;p13), a distinct clinical and biological entity: a collaborative study by the International-Berlin-Frankfurt-Munster AML-study group.

In pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML), cytogenetic abnormalities are strong indicators of prognosis. Some recurrent cytogenetic abnormalities, such as t(8;16)(p11;p13), are so rare that collaborative studies are required to define their prognostic impact. We collected the clinical characteristics, morphology, and immunophenotypes of 62 pediatric AML patients with t(8;16)(p11;p13) from 18 co...

Although leukemia is the most common malignancy in childhood, congenital leukemia which manifests itself within the first 4 weeks of life is rare and accounts for less than 1% of all leukemias in childhood. Congenital leukemia should be differentiated from transient myeloproliferative disorder(TMD) which is noted in Down Syndrome. Among the reported patients, acute myeloid leukemia(AML) was...

Treatment of a Child with Refractory Acute Myeloid Leukemia with Humanized Anti-CD33 Monoclonal Antibody: A Case Report and Review of Drug Development

Background: The induction chemotherapy regimen for acute myeloid leukemia has evolved as once induction is completed patients progress through the consolidation phase and achieve remission in 76% of cases. For patients with relapsed or refractory disease, alternative chemotherapy agents are available. Monoclonal antibody therapy with biological agents, such as the immunotoxin gemtuzumab ozog...

Translocation (8;16) in a patient with acute myelomonocytic leukemia, occurring after treatment with fludarabine for a low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

We describe a 65-year old woman who developed a t(8;16)(p11;p13) positive acute myeloid leukemia (AML)-M4 without a prior myelodysplasia thirty-six months after a low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma treated with alkylating agents (chlorambucil and cyclophosphamide) and fludarabine, a purine analog with a significant activity in lymphoproliferative disorders. The t(8;16)(p11;p13) is present in 0.4%...
